Au revoir Paris! ? We traveled from Paris, France to Wilderswil, Switzerland for more than 10 hours. We were very excited to be in this country as it will be our first time to experience snow. Yes, for real. Especially from someone who came from a tropical country like us. We can’t contain our happiness that day, which is exactly a year ago from today. It was very fascinating to see the scenic view even during night time. It is definitely Winter wonderland in Switzerland. Yay! 🙂
Alpenrose Hotel & Gardens was the hotel we stayed in for 2 days. It was a few blocks away from the train station which makes it very accessible. We tried their classic dish – cheese fondue. Melted cheese is served in a communal pot over a candle, and eaten by dipping bread into the cheese. We also enjoyed their local beer on the hotel which cost 5 Swiss Francs per glass ?. We slept a bit early that night in preparation for the excursion at Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe.
Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe
An impressive journey by cogwheel train from Wilderswil up to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. The Jungfraujoch is an Alpine attraction and viewing point, at an altitude of 3454 m. It feels like we are on top of the world when we reached the top. There is an Ice Palace with many ice sculptures to admire, Sphinx observatory and the Alpine Sensation. You can go out in the snow and enjoy the view of the Grosser Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding mountains. ?
Tip! Dress in multiple thinner layers so that you can adapt to the cold temperatures throughout your stay. I suggest as well to bring some ready to eat food with you and some chocolate to help you cope up with the high altitude sickness. The views from the Jungfraujoch are absolutely amazing, and so is the trip up there so make sure your camera is ready. ?
Short trip to Interlaken
It was a station away from Wilderswil to reach Interlaken. We went there straight from Jungfraujoch. Interlaken is small enough to get around on foot or bike. Interlaken town itself is a wonderful place to explore, it is filled with traditional wooden Swiss architecture, shops and restaurants, lakes, parks and surrounded by breathtaking mountains. The town is located on the edge of 3 regions: the Jungfrau region, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. ‘Interlaken’ in fact means ‘in between the lakes’.
I must say Interlaken is captivating and a must for every Swiss visit. It is one of the best locations in Switzerland for souvenir and watch shopping, and offers superb views of the Jungfrau mountain range.
Awesome, yeah? Words can’t explain how beautiful this country is and how we enjoyed the Winter wonderland in Switzerland. If given a chance, we’ll definitely be back.
